A vocal Wiper MP from Ukambani could be plotting to join a rival party associated with Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua (pictured). The politician has reportedly told some of his friends it is only a matter of time before he makes his move public. The MP has been protesting that the powers that be in his party are propping up his opponent to remove him in the 2022 polls, despite his immense contribution to the outfit. Angered by the move, the second-term MP is plotting a safer landing as he seeks a third term in office. Recently, the MP sent emissaries to people close to Governor Mutua over his decision to decamp. A multimillion-shilling contract awarded to a foreign firm to supply hi-tech registration services to a state agency could soon be the subject of investigations. It has emerged that the contract was highly overpriced above market rates, triggering uproar among board members. While the contract was advertised twice, it would later emerge that the final awardee was single-sourced through the help of the chief executive officer. The rollout of the project was marred by a lot of technical hitches attributed to the manufacturer's poor-quality gadgets. A petitioner has now written to the EACC and the DCI calling for investigations into negligence of criminal nature involving the supply of substandard gadgets that have been failing in the field.
