Newcomers Busende Rising Stars and Uprising Little Angels started the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Matayos Sub Branch Zone 'B' League on a high note, winning their opening matches on Saturday.
Busende Rising Stars trounced Nambere Olympics 3-0 in the match played at Busende Primary School. David Ochieng struck the first goal in the 13th minute with Bonface Were and Kevin Taabu accounting for the others in the 22nd and 75th minutes respectively.
At Mabunge RC Primary School, Uprising Little Angels ensured maximum points when they beat Lunga United 2-0 with goals from Ignatius Junias and Kevin Wafula in the 22nd and 28th minutes respectively.
In the other match played at Lunga Primary, Riverside trounced Mabuge United 3-1 with a brace from Gift Khaseke in the 8th and 35th minutes. The third goal was netted by Bernard Ouma in the 68th minute while Hillary Wafula scored Mabunge's consolation goal in the 79th minute.
In the only match played on Sunday, Murende Highlanders beat Black Stars 4-0 with Jacktone Otieno netting twice in the 24th and 54th minutes. Other goals came from Clinton Omondi and Felix Owino in the 31st and 73rd minutes respectively.
The Zone 'B' League, which comprises nine teams, is sponsored by Matayos South Member of the County Assembly, Linus Asiba for the second year running in partnership with FKF Busia Branch.
Nasewa Football Club were inaugural winners of Zone 'B' league with Muungano second. The two teams have since been promoted to the Busia County League, alongside Labour FC.
Elsewhere, Musokoto FC beat hosts Lupida 3-2 in a closely contested Busia County League Zone 'A' match played at Lupida Primary School .
Kevin Rapongo netted a hattrick in the 23rd, 60th and 62nd minutes with Sylvester Ongalia and Lawrence Barasa responding for Lupida in the 28th and 33rd minutes respectively.
Musokoto suffered a setback when Bonaventure Magima was sent off by centre referee, Jonathan Odhiambo.
In another Zone 'A' match, Obucuun and Asinge drew 0-0 while Tiger FC failed to show up for an encounter against Kamolo at Kamolo Primary School.
In Zone 'B' matches played at Butula Polytechnic, Butula Eagles beat Western King 2-0 with a brace from Moses Oduya in the 17th and 23rd minutes.
Two Eagles players were sent off; Ferdinand Odhiambo for a second caution and Evans Ayungo for violent conduct.
Buradi FC beat Mabale 1-0 with Tylen Masachi netting the lone goal in the 88th minute in a match officiated by Allan Andiega.
