The high cost of living was cited as the main reason by the Gen Zs for supporting anti-government protests, a survey by Infotrak Research and Consulting shows.
The survey said 43 per cent of the respondents cited the high cost of living as backing the countrywide demonstrations.
It further said 39 per cent of the protestors said the desire for change in the country motivated them.
Other reasons were unemployment (36 per cent), need for accountability (30 per cent), imposition of heavy taxes (23 per cent), corruption (16 per cent), poor governance (15 per cent), constitutional rights (14 per cent), lack of trust in government (12 per cent), lack of trust in political leaders (seven per cent) and President to resign (six per cent).
The survey was conducted on July 14 and 15, 2024 with a sample size of 1,000 respondents to represent Gen Zs who were aged 18-27 years at the time of the survey.
There was a margin error of ±3.099% at 95% degree of confidence.
The interviews were conducted through Computer Assisted Telephone interviews.
