Azimio leader Raila Odinga with other leaders during a parliamentary group retreat at Maanzoni Lodge in Athi River, Machakos County on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

All is set as Azimio coalition gears up for what they call the ‘people’s consultation meeting’ in Machakos.

However, it is not clear whether Ukambani governors Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Julius Malombe (Kitui) and their Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo Junior will attend the meeting.
Raila last visited Machakos on July 29, on a campaign trail to drum political support for his presidency alongside those of politicians who were contesting for various positions in parties affiliated with Azimio.

The Azimio leader will lead the rally at Mlolongo after the politicians make stopovers in Athi River and Kitengela towns.

Azimio leaders have criticised those elected on the coalition’s party affiliates and who have declared to work with the government.

Raila on Thursday said such leaders should resign and called them traitors.

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau will be hosting the leaders during the public consultations meeting in his constituency.

He is one of the leaders who Raila visited their regions and campaigned for in the last polls.

Kalonzo on Thursday said Kenyans must salvage their democracy and Azimio had the work to salvage the country’s democracy.

“Time is of the essence, what you do here at Manzoni and after can shape your political future. Don’t allow it to be said that the 13th Parliament helped bring down democracy in this nation,” Kalonzo told Azimio legislators.

"We have work to do, and that is to salvage our democracy.”

He said some of them had decided to stand for what is best for the country.
