Kirinyaga Governor on Tuesday launched a tree planting exercise to mark President William Ruto's 56th birthday.
During the exercise, Waiguru said her county is fully aligned to the National mission to plant 15 billion trees.
She said Kirinyaga County will plant at least 6 million trees as its contribution to the national goal of 15 billion.
Ruto turns 56 at just 100 days since he took over the reigns of the country.
On Wednesday, the President also launched a major tree planting campaign in Ngong hills, Kajiado county.
On October 15, Ruto had urged Kenyan parents to plant 100 trees during their children's birthday celebrations.
"Every parent should plant 100 trees for their child during birthday celebrations. We are facing a severe drought that has never been witnessed in 40 years as a result of climate change," Ruto said.
The President said this will help curb the drought ravaging through different counties across the country.
"Water increment goes hand-in-hand with conserving the environment. As a government we purpose to plant five billion trees in bid to combat climate change," Ruto said.
The President called on all Kenyans to join in the challenge and inculcate the culture of tree planting.
