Collins Oulo Okundi, the suspect in the murder of Ida Odinga's bodyguard Brack Oduor, on Sunday was arrested in Eldoret.

A pistol was also recovered during the arrest that came two days after the fatal shooting in Kisumu.

Okundi is alleged to have confronted the officer who was in the company of a woman, Marilyn Ouma, and a male friend.

The suspect is alleged to have shot Oduor twice in the head, killing him on the spot during the 3.30am incident at Victoria estate in Kisumu’s Uzima area.

The friend identified as Donar Kajwang was shot in the leg during the attack.

He is recuperating at the Aga Khan Hospital in the lakeside city.

The woman friend was identified as Marilyn Marion Ouma, who is said to be the woman in the alleged love triangle.

Nyanza regional police boss Karanja Muiruri confirmed the arrest.

"Yes. He has been arrested but he is still in Eldoret," Muiruri told the Star. There were plans to ferry the suspect to Kisumu where the crime was committed. The case is being handled by DCI chiefs in Kisumu Central.

Kisumu county police commander Alphonse Kimanthi said Okundi is likely to be arraigned on Monday.

According to an inventory prepared by the DCI in Eldoret West, Okundi was found with a Jericho pistol bearing a Kenya police serial number. It is believed to be the firearm stolen from Oduor.

The arrest was made in the jurisdiction of DCI in Eldoret West.

Police also recovered a magazine and seven rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Marylin Ouma, outside whose house the incident occurred, has been questioned by detectives.

She was interrogated for hours on Friday at the Kisumu Central police station to bring to light what happened on the morning of the murder.

Several theories have emerged, with claims Oduor could have been in the crossfire between the suspect and his friend who are alleged to have been dating the woman.

Okundi was a manager at Signature Club within Kisumu's CBD.

Oduor was part of the security team that was to accompany Ida for a burial in Bondo on Saturday. He was killed in Kisumu just hours after arriving in the city.

On Saturday, Ida blamed abuse of drugs, saying young men were quick to anger.

Ida mourned Onyango, saying he was a good man. She said many young people were into alcoholism and bhang, leading to wrong decisions in life.

"Anger is loss. You do not have to kill someone because someone has greeted your girlfriend," Ida said during the burial in Bondo.

Alcohol and bhang cannot build a nation, she said. She explained that young people have been misled into alcohol and drug abuse.

"Alcohol used to be consumed by older people at their idling joints in the evenings while bhang used to be a thing for  mentally ill people. Young people, be focused. Avoid drug abuse," Ida said.
