Pressure has already started mounting on Nairobi governor hopeful Polycarp Igathe, as the August polls near.
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential running mate Martha Karua on Sunday unleashed her ‘iron lady’ element, warning Igathe, should he fail to deliver if elected Nairobi Governor.
She cautioned Igathe that If he fails to deliver as expected, he will face Raila Odinga’s wrath.
“We want to see you working. And let me tell you if you fail to do that work Raila's whip will land on you,” Karua stated.
She added that Igathe will be held responsible if he fails to execute to the satisfaction of city residents.
"I have only one message to Igathe. If these people give you votes to be the governor of Nairobi we don't want to come here and see litter all over," Karua added.
In the Sunday tour of the city, the Azimio brigade pitched tents in Mathare, Lang'ata and Embakasi, where Raila urged supporters to embrace the ‘6-piece’ voting.
This, he said will help him have leaders' support right from counties to the National Government.
Last week, Igathe unveiled his manifesto dubbed 'The Nairobi Tunavyoitaka Manifesto'.
According to the hopeful, it was compiled after an intense ground campaign, together with his running mate Phillip Kaloki.
His manifesto is divided into three focus areas; society, economy and environment.
To fight hunger, Igathe has pledged to put in place a school feeding program for children living in slums and also to enhance bursary programs to improve access to education.
He will establish a 24-hour health facility in every sub county, comprehensively equip health centres and provide ambulances in every ward.
To create a conducive business environment, especially for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Igathe promises to do away with multiple business permits if he wins.
If elected, the Azimio Nairobi flag bearer said his government will institute a 'Linda Jamii’ social protection program aimed at improving and uplifting the sprawling informal settlements in Nairobi.
In order to decongest the city, Igathe will designate pickup and drop off zones for PSVs throughout the county.
In the first 100 days, the Azimio gubernatorial duo pledged to create a fit for purpose organisation to deliver services in Nairobi.
Igathe will face off Kenya Kwanza's Johnson Sakaja who is his main opponent in the race to become Nairobi’s fourth governor.
