Government spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has warned malls and supermarket operators against relaxing Covid-19 containment measures.

Oguna in a press briefing on Thursday said some of these facilities use faulty thermoguns.

He said others do not insist that shoppers must sanitize before entering the establishments.

"We are urging them to ensure that these measures are obeyed. Because even you as a proprietor of a mall, you need clients of good health and you must contribute to achieving that," Oguna said.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, supermarket operators were issued directives to ensure social distancing is observed as well as to introduce home deliveries where possible.

Retailers were asked to limit the number of shoppers at any given time based on premise size.

A queue management system was to be established where the elderly, expectant and the disabled are given preference.

During the first phase, supermarkets were encouraged to operate for 24 hours. A one person at a time shopping policy was briefly introduced.
