Three people died in separate road accidents in Naivasha on Friday.
In the first incident, a senior officer with Kengen died when his car rammed into the rear of a lorry along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road at about 5am.
Witnesses said the officer, who was travelling alone, was headed towards Mai Mahiu from Naivasha.
“The trailer had stalled in the middle of the road when the driver of the personal car hit it and died on the spot,” Joel Mwangi, a witness, said.
Traffic was disrupted along the road as officers moved to tow the wreckage to the Naivasha police station.
Two others, both pedestrians, died after being hit by speeding cars along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The first was hit near Karai trading center while the second was killed near KCC village.
"In the first case, the driver fled from the scene while in the second the driver lost control and landed into a nearby ditch," a witness Jane Muthoni said.
Police said the bodies were taken to the Naivasha mortuary.
Following the accidents, residents of Kinungi and Kayole along the highway lashed out at the government for failing to erect speed bumps as promised in November last year.
Naivasha East MCA Samuel Waithuki noted that only speed signs had been erected on the road and many drivers were ignoring them.
“We shall continue to demand for speed bumps on this section of the road as the only way of addressing fatal accidents,” he said.
A local leader James Kabono threatened they would block the road using coffins so that their cries could be heard.
He said NTSA chairman Lee Kinyanjui promised that a contractor would be on site a month ago but this had not happened.
