Nairobi City Thunder has made a significant move by signing talented point guard Eugene Adera, who is also known as widely known as 'Wakanda'.
The 6’2 player brings his impressive skills and experience to the team as they aim to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season.
Adera’s basketball journey is one of dedication and resilience. He developed his talent at Nakuru Club (2017-2018) and Embakasi Youth Basketball Association (2019-2020) before making a notable impact at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) after joining in 2021.
Despite facing a serious injury the same year, Adera’s determination saw him bounce back stronger, earning accolades including the Most Valuable Player award in the 2022/23 season when KPA claimed the men's basketball Premier League title.
Coach Brad Ibs expressed his enthusiasm about Adera’s arrival. “Eugene is a dynamic player with a relentless drive to attack the basket. I noticed last season that he’s also an exceptional passer, which I believe will help unlock more scoring opportunities for our shooters. I’m confident he’ll fit in perfectly with the Thunder,” said Ibs.
Adera, who recently played for Equity Bank Dumas, is equally excited about joining Thunder. “I’m thrilled to be part of the Nairobi City Thunder family. I’m looking forward to this new season and I hope to help them secure more victories,” he stated.
Nairobi City Thunder remains committed to building a competitive team and providing opportunities for top athletes like Adera.
The move comes a week after the Thunder bolstered their roster by signing Kenyan basketball standout Tyler Ongwae, a defensive player for the upcoming season.
