A TikToker from Uganda has been arrested for allegedly recording a video of himself sexually abusing a schoolgirl.
The suspect recorded himself kissing the minor and later posted the video on the social media platform four days later.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga confirmed the arrested and said the suspect committed the offense in the lodge and went into hiding to evade arrest but he was nabbed in Kitintale, Kampala.
Enanga said they also arrested the lodge attendant on charges of procuring defilement.
“Why would someone record themselves committing a crime? From an ethical point of view, we encourage all citizens to stop the practice unless it is for evidential purposes. Most video footage is recorded without any clues or leads on where it happened,” Enanga said.
"Police preliminary findings show that the teenager left home on the suspect boda boda on May 4, 2023, for coaching, when they reached Madudu Trading Centre, the suspect created an excuse to first branch off and pick up his personal items from his home," the Monitor, a publication in Uganda reported.
The video went viral and raised an online discussion which caught the attention of the victim's mother. Who then reported the matter at the Mubende police station.
