Outgoing Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has thanked the people of Machakos county for the trust they had in his leadership.
The two-time governor won the "Best Governor of the Year" award in December 2021.
"I thank God for enabling me to be recognised as the best governor in Kenya more so the special recognition given to me by Africa all in the best service of wananchi," Mutua said on Wednesday.
The governor was awarded during the second edition of the prestigious Africa Illustrious Award gala held in Lagos, Nigeria on December 9, 2021.
During the event, he was accompanied by Narok Senator, Ledama ole Kina.
The colorful event was attended by distinguished leaders from across the continent, government officials and media personalities.
Mutua did not contest for any elective seat in the 2022 general elections like a number of fellow outgoing governors who went for the senate seat.
Mutua will be succeeded by Wiper party's Wavinya Ndeti who garnered 226, 609 votes in the hotly contested seat that attracted five candidates.
She clinched the seat after unsuccessful attempts in 2013 and 2017.
