Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday took his final campaigns to the Eastern and Coast regions to appeal to residents to elect him.

The two regions account for about four million votes.

Speaking in Makueni, which is considered Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s support base, the DP told residents to vote wisely.

He told residents not to be duped into electing leaders who have no plans for them.

The DP told residents that Kenya Kwanza will bring the desired changes which have been elusive for years.

“I have come here to humbly request for your votes so that this time round we can form this government together,” Ruto told Mbooni residents.

“Let us vote for people who understand the challenges of the people, the current leaders have no idea of what Kenyans are undergoing, they are only reading about hunger in the newspapers,” he said.

Ruto said Raila has no solution to the problems facing residents and that him saying he was going to fight corruption was imaginary.

He said individuals christened Covid-19 billionaires who stole Kemsa funds, are yet to be charged in court because they have close relations with the leader and support him.

Ruto said President Uhuru Kenyatta is on record saying those implicated in theft of the Sh17 billion would be taken to court, but no action has been taken.

“Is someone who has conspired with others to loot public funds capable of fighting corruption really?” he asked.

The DP, who was accompanied by a host of Kenya Kwanza leaders, also addressed a rally at Tononoka grounds in Mombasa.

Ruto had on Thursday morning alleged that the state was planning to block him from holding the rally at Tononoka grounds.

“This is our final rally in Mombasa and it is a very important one. The kind of excuse they are giving us is that the President is in Mombasa,” he said.

Ruto responded to Uhuru over claims he is a liar saying he was a "decent guy" unlike himself.

In Makueni, the UDA party leader enumerated projects in the county including 300 kilometres of roads and increased electricity connections.

He said Sh800 million has been pumped into Wote and Kibwezi health facilities for ICU, radiology and renal unit equipment.

Ruto said during his first term in office he ensured that three technical institutions were established in the county.

He said Thwake dam, which had stalled for several years, is 70 per cent complete.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said their opponents have panicked and have resorted to using chiefs and their assistants to try and influence the election in their favour.

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Kwale Governor Sam Mvurya, former Governor Mike Sonko, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, Cate Waruguru and Mombasa governor candidate Hassan Omar accompanied the DP.
