On July 28, Kenya joins the rest of the world to mark World Nature Conservation Day.
The occasion aims to create awareness about the need to preserve the environment and natural resources to keep the world healthy.
According to United Nations, it is clear that today nature is facing a lot of challenges but unfortunately little has been done to solve the pollution of world nature.
The nature we live in keeps various components including soil, water, energy resources, flora and fauna which have become depleted.
These are important components since it becomes impossible for humans to live a normal life without one of the listed components of nature.
Therefore, this is a call for everyone who exists in the world to take responsibility.
According to recent global statistics, there are 8 billion people who populate the Earth, this is expected to exceed 9 billion by the year 2037.
Kenya for a long time has been facing a problem in wildlife in the sense that poachers are eliminating some animals that have become extinct with time.
Cutting down forest cover which makes space for the ever-growing population has caused climate change and environmental complications.
In Kenya, some regions are experiencing undesirable drought just because there was a massive cut of trees that added up to climate change.
The safe water sources we knew before are not the ones we have now, they have been polluted by human activities and this has endangered humans and animals who depend on them.
Air pollution of air is also a growing norm in Kenya and the rest of the world.
Recently, the world marked World No Tobacco Day and it was realised that tobacco smoking has risen and this has polluted the environment, especially the fresh air we breathe.
Active and passive smokers when they inhale this polluted air creates respiratory disorders hence resulting in premature deaths.
So it is high time for smokers to learn that it endangers our natural resources hence putting the world on the edge.
Human activities are the top negative forces on natural components like air, water, and soil and therefore it will be wise to use this day and spread awareness about the importance of preserving our natural resources.
It is high time we embark on serious preservation of nature by using water sparingly, avoiding littering the environment, reducing pollution of air and other natural resources, and avoiding cutting down trees.
Planting more trees reduces and controls soil erosion.
The government should come up with fresh measures to protect nature from massive destruction by human activities and other existing forces.
Poachers should be arrested and charged.
The relentless human overexploitation of resources has led to the unusual pattern, destruction of wildlife, extinction of species and loss of biodiversity.
Let a lasting solution be established to curb this.
Everyone should be at the forefront of advocating for safe and healthy nature, Mahatma Gandhi quoted once said “The world has enough for everyone's needs, but not everyone yields .”
