In 2017 the government banned single-use plastic bags, a bold move in environmental conservation.
The citizens were able to switch to using more environmentally friendly bags, which are easily degradable.
Farmers who had complained of livestock deaths due to the consumption of plastic bags lauded the state for ending their misery.
But some citizens questioned how they would live without using plastic bags and if they would transition completely.
One would imagine a future where the environment was clean and sustainable.
However, four years after the ban the environment is still neglected.
There is still a lot of garbage and people don't care.
A walk into some of these major cities will leave you astonished.
The government has placed rubbish disposal bins but yet people do not use them but throw garbage on roads, flower vessels and other undesignated places.
It is sad to see people who once cared about the environment have forgotten how it has sustained them.
They are now dumping garbage wherever they please.
Some rental houses do not have proper disposal methods, therefore tenants dump the garbage next to the building.
Deforestation has also become a major sight. People are cutting down trees without repercussions trying to create more room for urbanisation.
These people are complaining of long periods of dry weather.
The crops are now withering due to a lack of enough water.
Some rivers have dried up. Is this a punishment by the environment for neglecting it?
We should go back and learn how to continue taking care of the environment. For each tree we cut, five should be planted.
We should ensure we live in places where there is a proper garbage disposal method.
Authorities should punish anyone who defies this
It is not yet too late to ensure the sustainability of the environment.
Let us set an example for the next generation by taking care of our environment.
