A Kisii politician allied to Deputy President William Ruto is in trouble. There is growing rebellion over his push to handpick the UDA county coordinator against the wishes of his Tangatanga team members. The revolt could deflate the hustler nation movement in the crucial region ahead of 2022. One of the groups opposed to the ranking politician's endorsement prefers a vocal MP from the region to decide who becomes the county coordinator for the wheelbarrow party. However, another faction coalescing around the embattled politician feels entitled to pull the Tangatanga strings in Kisii. It is only a matter of time before the factional wars explode.

A party leader has triggered a political storm after he allegedly asked a governor from one of the counties in Western to buy him a chopper. The party leader claims he has been embarrassed by having to hitch rides from his peers, who all have helicopters to criss-cross the county. He now says he will go slow on criticising the governor if he gets a chopper. The governor told the party leader it was impossible to procure a chopper with county funds. The county chief said it would be difficult to avoid audit queries if he spent over Sh400 million to please the politician. The party leader is still said to be insisting on the chopper, audit queries notwithstanding.

A political bigwig's public entourage has come under sharp scrutiny. The politician, who has expanded his countrywide tours, has exposed his soft underbelly in his fight for a national position. His trips and even church events have been largely attended by his allies from one of the country's ethnic communities. The unavailability and snubs by politicians from other regions have denied the heavyweight a national image ahead of 2022. In a recent visit to a county, the politician was only accompanied by his tribesmen and women, exposing his outfit as a one-region affair. Have his strategists let him down? Stay tuned.

Concerning Tangatanga, a political earthquake could be coming in Kilifi county after Deputy President William Ruto endorsed one of the aspirants as UDA's candidate for the governor's seat in 2022. The DP, who has previously avoided being drawn into local political alignments, made it clear the politician would fly the Tangatanga flag in the battle for the top seat. There are concerns the DP's pronouncement may not augur well given that one of his key lieutenants on the Tangatanga squad is also eyeing the seat.
