Four legislators from ODM leader Raila Odinga's (pictured) Nyanza turf on Saturday shocked their aides when they organised an impromptu ceremony to celebrate last week's High Court judgement. It dealt a blow to Raila's Building Bridges Initiative project with President Uhuru Kenyatta. The leaders who were accompanied by a few unidentified businessmen are said to have gone into a frenzy of joy soon after the Thursday ruling. They previously had insisted they were behind the BBI drive. A little bird has whispered to Corridors of Power that they had been concerned about how they would market the project amid growing concerns over their position on the Bill.
A county assembly in the Nyanza region has bluffed voters about how it operates. Ideally, members of county assemblies are expected to attend sessions for them to earn sitting allowances. This doesn't happen in one notorious assembly that's looting public coffers. The leadership of the house has crafted a ‘stealing’ arrangement whereby members sit only once but receive payment for the entire week when the business of the house is expected to take place. This, according to our mole, has been the order of the day for years now. Just why should people calling themselves honourable servant leaders decide to behave dishonourably?
A senior law enforcer was recently overheard lamenting the recent changes in a critical institution that relegated him to its periphery. A little bird has whispered to Corridors of Power how the man has been putting on a brave face about his redeployment while privately mourning the alleged loss of "power and opulence". He is said to have told his close allies and business associates not to worry as, "I will soon come back with a bang in another new world." It's just a matter of time to see how the officer metamorphoses into a powerful man once again.
Success, they say, has many fathers while failure is an orphan. The old adage came to pass during the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam when three Members of the National Assembly laid claim to one of the top performers, trying to outdo each other in celebrating him. Both lawmakers announced how their input made an enormous difference in the academic life of the young man. What was interesting was that some of the MPs out to get mileage from his sterling performance could not get the student's name right, though he had just become an overnight celebrity.
