South Sudan vice-president Machar tests positive for Covid-19

A number of his office staff and bodyguards have also tested positive.

South Sudan Vice President Riek Machar and his wife Angelina Teny have tested positive for coronavirus, his office said in a statement on Monday.

His Press Secretary Gatdet Dak also said that a number of his office staff and bodyguards have also tested positive with Covid-19 disease.

"This came as a result of the testing done by members of the High-Level Taskforce on Wednesday. A number of other previous members of the Taskforce also tested positive," the statement said.

 

It added that  Machar took another test on April 27 whose result came out negative.

Machar has said that he will self-quarantine in his residence for the next 14 days, with the rest in the residence found positive.

"He is healthy and also confirmed by the doctor," the statement said.
