Genge rapper Jua Cali says being away from his family is the biggest challenge he has encountered as an artiste.

Jua Cali has been in the industry for more than two decades now. "The biggest challenge is that when I married, my wife could not understand me because I used to travel a lot and," he told Word Is yesterday.

He says it took him to constantly remind her that he was working. "Celebrity marriage needs a lot of trust, and with that, things will work out," he said.

Recently, his wife Lilly Asigo admitted that she sometimes checks her husband’s inbox messages just to see what is happening. The mother of three said she had to ask for his password to always know who is trying to come in between the two as she tries to deal with his stardom.

Jua Cali recently turned 40 years, something he is proud of as a musician and a family man.

His entry into the music industry included singing in a band called ‘Sita Futi’, which disbanded as soon as it was started.

Calif Records came into being after he teamed up with his childhood friend Clemo to form the record label. It quickly became a hit factory, gaining prominence in the East African music scene.

"I have been doing music half of my life and it is special to me because I know there are those who would want to do it the same way but they are not able," he said.

His advice to other celebrities is they should not fear marriage because it opens more opportunities for them.

Jua Cali is promoting his fourth album, released two weeks ago. 'Mali ya Umma' has 15 songs.

The title of the album was inspired by Juliani because he used to call me that way as I was a man of the people. The album has collabos with different talents, including Wyre and Teardrop.
