The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched the recruitment process for a new Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, inviting qualified Kenyans to apply for the position as it moves to fill one of its top administrative offices.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, the electoral agency said the successful candidate will serve as the Commission's chief executive and accounting officer, overseeing the implementation of IEBC policies and the day-to-day management of its operations.
Interested candidates have until August 11, 2026, at 5:00pm to submit their applications via [email protected], quoting “Commission Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CS/CEO)” in the subject line.
The Commission said applicants must meet the constitutional requirements for holders of public office and possess the academic qualifications, professional experience and leadership skills prescribed under the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act and other relevant laws.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to present clearance certificates from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and a registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
The successful applicant will oversee the implementation of the Commission's resolutions, provide leadership in the management of staff and daily operations, administer its financial and administrative functions, ensure the security of official records, and guide the institution in delivering its constitutional mandate with accountability, efficiency and integrity.
The vacancy follows the departure of former Commission Secretary and CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan earlier this year.
Since then, Moses Ledama Sunkuli has been serving in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive office holder.
Under the IEBC Act, the office is held for a four-year term, renewable only once, making him ineligible for another term.
IEBC encouraged all eligible applicants to ensure their submissions comply with the requirements contained in the vacancy notice.
The recruitment comes as the reconstituted electoral commission continues preparations for upcoming by-elections and other constitutional mandates, with the appointment of a substantive CEO expected to strengthen the institution's administrative leadership.
