Statement marked fake news by Wiper party/ HANDOUT
The Wiper Patriotic Front party has dismissed as fake a letter circulating online claiming party leader Kalonzo Musyoka would announce a new political direction, insisting he remains committed to the opposition's WANTAM Movement.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party urged supporters and the public not to be misled by the document, which purported to invite journalists to a press conference where Kalonzo would allegedly address the nation on his political trajectory and the country's leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election.
"This letter circulating online is FAKE. Our party leader Kalonzo Musyoka remains fully committed to the WANTAM MOVEMENT. Ukombozi wa Kenya ni Lazima. This regime must go. Do not be distracted. Do not share propaganda," the party said.
The fake letter, bearing Wiper's branding and marked with Tuesday, July 28, 2026, claimed Kalonzo would hold a press conference at the SKM Command Centre in Karen to make a "significant statement regarding his political trajectory and the future of Kenya's leadership".
It further alleged that the address would focus on "the shifting political landscape, broad-based coalition realignments, and the path forward ahead of 2027" and carried the name of a purported communications contact.
Wiper, however, dismissed the document in its entirety, saying it did not originate from the party, and cautioned Kenyans against circulating or relying on the information contained in it.
The clarification comes as Kalonzo continues to work alongside other opposition leaders under the WANTAM Movement, a political platform that has intensified campaigns against President William Ruto's administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The opposition alliance has in recent months held rallies, town hall engagements, church services and public forums across different parts of the country, using the meetings to criticise the government's economic policies, governance record and cost of living.
Kalonzo has consistently maintained that the opposition remains united despite speculation over possible political realignments.
He has repeatedly dismissed reports suggesting divisions within the alliance, insisting its leaders share a common objective of presenting a united front in the next General Election.
The former Vice President has also urged supporters to remain focused on the coalition's agenda, arguing that the opposition's priority is to build a broad national movement capable of offering Kenyans an alternative leadership.
The fake letter emerged against the backdrop of heightened political activity, with both the Kenya Kwanza administration and opposition leaders stepping up engagements across the country as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
In recent months, Kalonzo has appeared alongside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, People's Liberation Party leader Martha Karua and other opposition figures at a series of political events.
The group has reiterated calls for unity while urging Kenyans to rally behind their campaign for a change of government in 2027.
