Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has declared that leaders from the Nyanza region have resolved to unite behind President William Ruto's re-election bid in 2027, saying they want the region's votes to deliver the President a decisive victory.
Wandayi said the region's leadership had made a deliberate decision to work with President Ruto in pursuit of development and prosperity.
"Let me clarify, for the avoidance of doubt: as the leadership of this region, we have made a conscious, united decision to work together and guide our people toward prosperity under President William Ruto's leadership," Wandayi said.
Speaking in Homa Bay County on Friday during the launch of the Ober Boys' Senior School green-energy-compliant kitchen, the CS said Nyanza was not merely seeking to be part of the government but intended to play a central role in forming the next administration.
"This time around, we are not merely joining the government; we are coming together in one accord to form the government with President William Ruto," he said.
Wandayi urged residents to rally behind the President during the next General Election.
"We want that when the time for elections comes, all our votes from Nyanza will be in one basket for William Ruto. When President Ruto wins, we want him to win with our votes," he said.
His remarks come amid increasing political activity in Nyanza, where leaders allied to the broad-based government have intensified campaigns to consolidate support for President Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls.
The commissioning of the green energy kitchen makes it the first institution in Rachuonyo East Sub-county to fully comply with the Ministry of Energy's clean cooking standards.
He commended the school's management for embracing clean energy technologies, saying the initiative supports the government's agenda of promoting affordable, sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.
"The adoption of clean cooking technologies will reduce reliance on traditional fuels, lower energy costs, improve the health and safety of students and staff, and contribute to environmental conservation through reduced emissions and deforestation," he said.
The CS said public institutions have a critical role in accelerating Kenya's transition to clean energy by adopting technologies that reduce carbon emissions while cutting operational costs.
He added that the Ober Boys project demonstrates how schools can contribute to the country's clean cooking agenda while providing healthier learning environments for students.
The government has been promoting clean cooking technologies as part of its broader strategy to expand access to affordable energy, reduce dependence on biomass fuels and advance Kenya's climate change commitments.
