Detectives have rescued 18 women and arrested several suspects following coordinated operations targeting an alleged sexual exploitation and obscene content network in Kiserian and Ongata Rongai.
In a statement on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the operations were part of an ongoing crackdown on criminal groups suspected of exploiting young women through false job offers and the production of obscene material.
According to the DCI, one of the operations was conducted in the Rimpa area of Ongata Rongai after detectives received information from members of the public about a house allegedly being used for the commercial production of explicit content.
“Police acted swiftly on tips from the members of the public and found 30 women, aged 19 to 27, trapped in a nightmarish scheme,” the agency stated.
The authority said a search of the premises led to the recovery of seven laptops fitted with cameras and other equipment believed to have been used in the production of obscene content.
The suspects arrested during the operation were taken into custody at Ongata Rongai police station as investigations continue ahead of their arraignment.
In a separate operation in neighbouring Kiserian, detectives acted on intelligence indicating that young women were allegedly being lured with promises of domestic jobs before being subjected to sexual exploitation and commercial prostitution.
“Thanks to a joint effort by Police officers from Kiserian and Rongai Police Stations, 18 women were rescued from this grim reality and placed under police protection,” DCI said.
Officers also recovered mobile phones, laptops and other items believed to have been used in the commission of the alleged offences.
The recovered items were secured as exhibits.
Police said the suspected mastermind behind the Kiserian operation remains at large, with detectives pursuing leads to trace and arrest the individual.
The DCI said arrangements were underway to place the rescued women in safe and appropriate shelters, where they will receive comprehensive support services.
“Arrangements are being made to provide the rescued women with safe, appropriate shelter and comprehensive holistic support services, including psychosocial counselling and medical care, to ensure their safety, dignity, and successful reintegration,” the authorities stated.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks that profit from sexual exploitation and the production of obscene.
Investigators are now seeking to establish the full extent of the alleged operations and identify any additional suspects.
The DCI said investigations into both incidents are ongoing and pledged to ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice.
The agency also appealed to members of the public to continue sharing information that could assist in combating such crimes, noting that community cooperation played a key role in the operations.
