Uganda's renowned Ghetto Kids dance troupe is preparing for one of the biggest performances of its journey after receiving an invitation from Colombian superstar Shakira to perform during the FIFA World Cup final halftime show.

The troupe says the opportunity is a dream come true and a chance to showcase Uganda's talent on one of the world's biggest sporting stages.

In a social media post announcing the collaboration, Shakira said the Ugandan dancers had made a lasting impact on her life.

"The Ghetto Kids from Uganda have changed our lives. Spending time with them has been magical and has taught us so much! I'm so happy to finally have them here in New York to dance with me at the World Cup Final!!" the singer wrote, describing the upcoming performance as a special moment.

Speaking ahead of the performance, troupe member Josephine Daniella Businge expressed her excitement.

"We feel so excited, we can't wait to perform with Shakira, and we can't wait to show the world what we are," she said.

The Ghetto Kids began as a project in Kampala that uses dance and the performing arts to support abandoned, orphaned and vulnerable children by giving them hope, education and opportunities through talent.

Founder and coach Kavuma Dauda said the invitation is more than just a performance; it is an inspiration for children who believe they have no future.

"This one is very different. It's a very huge opportunity for the Ghetto Kids, for me, and for the children who have no hope. They'll still have hope," Dauda said.

Over the years, the troupe has gained international recognition through viral dance videos and appearances on global talent shows and entertainment events.

Their performances have attracted millions of viewers and opened doors beyond Uganda.

Dancer Ssegirinya Madwanah said performing on the World Cup stage will expose the group to an even larger global audience.

"Performing on one of the biggest stages always feels good. We have been seen by many people who are watching on that stage where we perform. It always feels good, and it brings a lot of opportunities," Madwanah said.
