A vehicle caught fire after crashing into a pedestrian footbridge along Mbagathi Way in Nairobi, leaving it extensively damaged and prompting an emergency response.
Videos seen by the Star showed the aftermath of the incident, with the vehicle engulfed in flames while lodged on the staircase of the footbridge.
The footage showed thick flames and smoke rising from the wreckage as onlookers gathered a short distance away while emergency responders attended to the scene.
The videos also appeared to show damage to part of the footbridge.
Sections of the metal guard rail along the staircase appeared bent and torn off, while debris from the vehicle and the damaged structure was scattered across the stairs and the surrounding area.
Several traffic police officers were seen at the scene securing the area.
An ambulance also arrived shortly after the incident, although it was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties.
By daybreak, recovery operations were underway.
A separate video recorded at dawn showed a breakdown truck and a crane clearing the wreckage from the damaged footbridge.
The crane was seen lifting the charred remains of the vehicle onto a recovery truck.
Several members of the public gathered nearby to watch the recovery exercise, while traffic continued to flow along sections of Mbagathi Way.
The daylight footage also showed the extent of the apparent damage to the footbridge, with parts of the staircase railing hanging loose.
It was not immediately clear how the vehicle ended up on the footbridge staircase, which is reserved for pedestrians and is elevated above the roadway.
