A one-and-a-half-year-old boy has drowned in a water pan at a farm in Keiyo South Sub-County, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Police said the incident occurred on Thursday while the child, aged one year and six months, was playing with another child at his employer’s farm.
According to police, the child’s father attempted to rescue him after discovering that he had fallen into the water pan.
However, by the time he retrieved the toddler, the child had already died.
Police officers visited the scene and documented the incident.
The body was moved to Kamwosor Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, police in Tigania West Sub-County are investigating the death of a 63-year-old man whose body was found inside his house after it had begun decomposing.
The deceased, identified as Japhet Kirao, was found dead at his home in Maitha Village, Matiru Sub-location, Thinyaine Location, on Thursday morning.
A relative who had travelled from the Isiolo 78 area to the family’s rural home with his children discovered Kirao lying lifeless inside the house at around 10am.
Police said the deceased had been living alone, and his body had partially decomposed by the time it was discovered, suggesting he may have died several days earlier.
Police officers visited and documented the scene before removing the body to Miathene Sub-County Mortuary. The body will undergo a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death as investigations continue.
Police have also launched investigations into the murder of a 26-year-old man whose body was found in a maize farm in Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
The deceased was identified as Zeth Ondiwa, also known as Nati, a resident of the area.
According to police, the body was discovered on Thursday in a maize farm, prompting officers from Ndiru Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rangwe to visit the scene.
Investigators found the victim with severe cut injuries to the head. Preliminary findings indicate the injuries were inflicted using stones recovered at the scene, which are believed to have been used as the murder weapons.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive for the killing and identify those responsible.
