Kenya Railways Corporation has warned Kenyans against a surge in train booking fraud.

In a statement, the corporation said fraudsters are impersonating the corporation through fake websites, social media pages and other channels to swindle unsuspecting passengers.

The scammers, Kenya Railways noted, are deceiving customers into making payments via fraudulent platforms, resulting in financial losses.

"Kenya Railways wishes to notify members of the public that fraudulent websites, social media pages and individuals are impersonating the Corporation and deceiving customers into making payments through fraudulent channels, resulting in financial loss," the statement said.

The corporation urged anyone who has fallen victim to the scam to report the incident immediately through its official customer service channels to facilitate investigations.

Victims have been advised to call 0709 907 000 or 0709 907 555, or send an email to [email protected] with details of the incident.

To protect passengers from falling prey to fraudsters, Kenya Railways reminded the public that Madaraka Express Passenger Service tickets should only be purchased through its authorised booking channels.

According to the corporation, passengers can book tickets online through its official booking portal, via the *639# USSD service or by visiting any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station across the country.

Kenya Railways cautioned passengers against relying on unofficial booking links or individuals claiming to offer ticketing services on behalf of the corporation, urging customers to verify booking platforms before making any payments.

The corporation said it is working closely with the relevant security agencies to identify those behind the fraudulent schemes and ensure they are prosecuted.

"Kenya Railways is working closely with the relevant security agencies to investigate these fraudulent activities and bring the perpetrators to justice," the statement said.

The corporation urged customers to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious websites, social media pages or individuals claiming to sell train tickets outside the approved booking channels.
