The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations after four armed suspects riding motorcycles raided a restaurant in Nairobi's Westlands area.
The suspects robbed customers of their valuables, fired several gunshots in the air and fled the scene.
The robbery occurred on Saturday night along General Mathenge Road, where the four suspects, travelling on two motorcycles, reportedly entered the restaurant before stealing valuables from customers.
During the incident, the suspects fired two rounds into the air before escaping towards the Parklands area.
No injuries were reported during the robbery, although the gunshots caused panic among those at the scene as the attackers made their escape.
Police recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the scene, which has since been submitted for forensic examination as detectives work to identify those responsible.
According to the DCI, investigators have already recorded statements from several victims, with more victims and witnesses expected to provide their accounts as the investigation progresses.
Detectives from the Imaging and Acoustic Section are also retrieving and analysing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area in an effort to trace the suspects' movements before and after the robbery.
In addition, crime scene investigators have submitted critical exhibits recovered from the scene for forensic analysis, with investigators hoping the evidence will provide leads that could assist in identifying the suspects.
The DCI said the investigation is being driven by both intelligence gathering and forensic evidence as detectives work to establish the identities of the attackers and the circumstances surrounding the robbery.
"Intelligence and forensics-led investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying, apprehending, and arraigning the suspects before the courts," DCI said.
Authorities have not disclosed the value of the items stolen or whether the suspects specifically targeted the establishment or selected it opportunistically.
The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to protecting members of the public and ensuring those responsible for violent crimes are brought to justice.
"The DCI wishes to assure the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of all persons within the Republic and to ensuring that those responsible for criminal acts are held accountable and brought to justice," the statement said.
