Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced that he is no longer a member of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying he is consulting widely before unveiling his next political move.
The lawmaker said he had already made the decision to leave the ruling party, adding that the next step was determining the political direction he would take.
"The UDA party has abandoned Kenyans and that is the reason all of us moved away from the governing party. All of us have left the party," Nyoro said.
Referring to UDA's wheelbarrow symbol, he added: "There is no more person on top of a wheelbarrow or taking a wheelbarrow anywhere, here in our place, even across the country."
Nyoro said his current consultations were not about whether to remain in UDA but about determining his next political destination.
"So the decision we are making is not about whether to support a wheelbarrow or not or where. That decision we made a long time ago," he said.
The MP said he would not be pressured into making hurried political decisions, insisting that his next move would be guided by the interests of Kenyans.
"I will not be pushed around. I know my conscience is clear. If Kenya changes and moves in the right direction, work becomes easier for everyone," Nyoro said.
He appealed to political leaders to put aside personal interests and focus on addressing the country's challenges, saying any political decision should prioritise the welfare of citizens.
"A leader must never make such an important decision because they are being pushed. Kenyans must be at the centre of every political decision we make," he said.
Nyoro said his experience campaigning for the Kenya Kwanza coalition during the 2022 General Election had made him more cautious about making future political decisions.
"I campaigned across Kenya in 2022 and we made promises to people. Today, Kenyans are asking where those promises went. That is why I will not rush into another political decision before I know exactly what I am doing," he said.
He reiterated that consultations were ongoing and said he would announce his next political course after engaging more stakeholders.
"The decision about whether to remain with the wheelbarrow was made a long time ago. The decision I am taking time to make now is where Kenya goes from here and how we get there with Kenyans at the centre," Nyoro said.
