Three suspects have been arrested following an attack on a Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, Kisii county, on Friday.

The National Police Service (NPS) in a statement on Saturday said investigations are underway to identify and apprehend more people linked to the incident.

The NPS said investigations had established that the attack occurred along the Kisii-Keroka Road on Friday, July 3, targeting a political group that was in the area.

The service said officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kisii Central, working alongside officers from Keumbu Police Station, responded swiftly to the incident and arrested three suspects who are currently in police custody.

Police added that investigators are conducting a more detailed analysis of videos circulating on mainstream and social media, alongside other investigative efforts, with the aim of making additional arrests.

"A more detailed analysis of the video, alongside wider investigative efforts, is underway with a view to making further arrests," the NPS said.

The service strongly condemned the violence, describing political intolerance as unacceptable and warning that those responsible would be pursued through the criminal justice system.

"The NPS strongly condemns the events depicted. Political intolerance, in whatever form, is unacceptable and will be rigorously pursued through the criminal justice system," the statement read.

The Inspector General of the National Police Service has also directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to expedite its assessment of the incident, including identifying any operational gaps that may have contributed to the violence. The IAU has already deployed officers to the affected area.

"The Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS) has directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to expedite its assessment of all aspects of the violence, identify any operational gaps that may have contributed to the incident, and take appropriate action within the broader context of the attack," the statement said.

The police further appealed to members of the public to support the investigations by sharing any information related to the incident through the nearest police station, the toll-free emergency numbers 999, 911, 0800 722 203 (FichuaKwaDCI), or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the NPS said it would ensure all those responsible are held accountable.

"As a Service, we remain committed to protecting the public, investigating all cases to their logical conclusion, and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice," the statement said.
