The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has cautioned the public against engaging with a fraudulent Facebook page impersonating the regulatory body.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the council said the account is misleading users by posing as its official communication channel.
The fake page, the council said, is unlawfully using the NCK logo, reposting official content and creating the impression that it is operated by the institution.
"The fake page is illegally using the Nursing Council of Kenya logo, reposting NCK content, and misleading members of the public into believing it is an official communication channel," NCK said.
It added that the account is being run by an individual who has no affiliation with the council.
The council warned members of the public against interacting with the page or responding to any information or requests shared through it.
It urged the public not to disclose personal information in response to requests made through the fraudulent account or any other page falsely claiming to represent the council.
"Do not engage with the fake page or its administrators. Do not share personal information or make any payments in response to any requests made through the fraudulent page or any other page falsely claiming to represent NCK," the notice states.
NCK clarified that its official Facebook page is verified with a blue verification badge and advised the public to treat any unverified page purporting to represent the council as fraudulent.
The regulator also urged stakeholders to verify all official communication through its verified social media platforms and official website before acting on any information.
Besides its verified Facebook page, the council said members of the public can obtain authentic updates through its official X account, @NCKenya.
The council said it has already initiated steps to have the fraudulent page removed and called on members of the public to report any social media accounts impersonating the institution.
NCK reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its communication channels and protecting the public from misinformation and online fraud.
"As we continue to uphold our vision of 'A Safe and Healthier World,' we remain committed to protecting the public from misinformation, fraud and impersonation while ensuring timely and credible communication," the council said.
It urged members of the public to remain vigilant when interacting with online platforms claiming to represent public institutions and to verify the authenticity of social media accounts before relying on information posted on them.
"Protect yourself. Verify before you trust," the council said.
The body is mandated to regulate nursing and midwifery education, training and practice in Kenya. It registers and licenses nurses and midwives, accredits training institutions, sets professional standards, conducts licensing examinations, and ensures the delivery of safe, ethical and quality nursing and midwifery services to the public.
