The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured key court orders in extradition proceedings against Kenyan national Brian Kiprop Kiplagat, who is wanted in the United Kingdom over multiple criminal charges.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the orders were obtained at the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, marking the latest step in efforts to facilitate Kiplagat's extradition under Kenyan law.

According to the DPP, authorities in the United Kingdom are seeking Kiplagat's extradition to face charges of murder, manslaughter, perverting the course of justice and fraud by false representation.

During the proceedings, the prosecution informed the court of the request from the United Kingdom and sought the endorsement of two warrants of arrest issued by the Westminster Court.

The application was allowed by Hon. Bosibori Nyangema, who endorsed the two warrants, paving the way for the commencement of the extradition process.

The DPP said the court's decision enables the proceedings to move forward "in accordance with Kenyan law and international legal cooperation frameworks."

The prosecution also successfully opposed Kiplagat's release on bail.

As a result, the court ordered that he remain in custody pending the next hearing.

The matter is scheduled for mention on Monday, June 29, 2026, when the court is expected to issue further directions on the extradition proceedings.

The extradition request forms part of legal cooperation between Kenya and the United Kingdom in matters involving cross-border criminal cases.

The DPP did not provide further details on the allegations underlying the charges in the United Kingdom during the court session.

The prosecution team was led by Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Vincent Monda. He was assisted by Victor Owiti, Magdalyne Nduati and Brenda Nandwa.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the court orders represent a significant step in the ongoing extradition process as Kenyan courts consider the request by the United Kingdom for Kiplagat to be surrendered to face the charges outlined in the extradition proceedings.

The case will return to court on Monday, June 29, 2026, for further directions.
