M.P. Shah Hospital has pledged full cooperation with investigations by the Social Health Authority (SHA) after the healthcare provider was temporarily suspended from the authority’s panel of contracted facilities over billing complaints.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the hospital confirmed that it had received a notice from SHA suspending its contract for the provision of services to beneficiaries under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and other related schemes pending the outcome of investigations.
The hospital said it was treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves and had already commenced an internal review alongside cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.
“M.P. Shah Hospital has received a notice from the Social Health Authority (SHA) temporarily suspending our contract for the provision of services to SHA/SHIF beneficiaries, pending an investigation into billing complaints,” the hospital said.
The facility acknowledged concerns surrounding patient billing and stated that any instance where patients were required to make payments for services that should have been covered under their SHIF benefits would be inconsistent with its standards.
“Every patient who comes through our doors deserves to receive the care they are entitled to without unnecessary financial burden. If any of our patients were required to make payments that should have been covered under their SHIF benefit, that falls short of the standard we hold ourselves to, and we are committed to investigating and correcting it,” the hospital said.
The response came hours after SHA announced the temporary suspension of the hospital from its panel of contracted healthcare providers with effect from June 23, 2026.
According to the authority, the suspension applies to services offered under the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund (ECCIF), and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).
SHA said the suspension would remain in place pending the conclusion of investigations.
The authority, however, assured beneficiaries that patients who had already been admitted before the suspension took effect would continue receiving care at the facility until completion of their current episode of treatment and discharge.
Beneficiaries seeking new admissions, follow-up treatment or other healthcare services during the suspension period were advised to seek services from other SHA-contracted healthcare providers.
To minimise disruptions in patient care, M.P. Shah Hospital said it had put measures in place to support affected patients.
“We are cooperating fully with SHA’s investigation and have begun our own internal review. Current patients are being supported with safe transfers to other SHA-contracted facilities where needed, and our teams are on hand to assist any affected patients,” the hospital said.
SHA also advised beneficiaries requiring assistance with continuity of care or referrals to contact the authority through its toll-free number 147.
The hospital said it remained committed to serving patients and would continue providing updates as the matter progresses.
“We remain committed to the health and wellbeing of our community and will provide further updates as this matter progresses,” the statement said.
In its notice, SHA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding access to quality and accountable healthcare services while investigations continue.
