Motor trade boss, wife killed in fatal trailer crash on Nairobi–Mombasa Highway

Police said a trailer collided with the man's motor vehicle, leading to the fatalities.

Makindu Motors Limited proprietor Stephen Ngei and his wife Ginnaphina Mumbua have died in a grisly road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Makindu, Makueni County.

Police said the duo died on the spot after the motor vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident in Kiboko area, Kibwezi, on Saturday.

They died after a pick-up they were travelling in was involved in a fatal crash with a trailer at midday time.

Police said they were travelling from Mombasa direction towards Nairobi when the incident occurred.

Their employee, who was also in the car during the accident, sustained injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said the trailer that collided with the man's motor vehicle, leading to the fatalities, had a South Sudan registration number and was moving in the opposite direction.

Traffic officers from Mashuru Police Station in Kajiado County responded to the scene. They documented and cleared the scene before taking the bodies to Montenzuma Mortuary in Machakos town.

Police cleared traffic that had piled up due to the incident and towed the wreckage to the Simba Police Station area.

Police have since launched investigations into the accident. The deceased had considerable influence in the motorcycle industry in Africa.

Independent sources divulged that the couple was headed to their farm in Emali from their rural home in Makindu when the accident happened.

In a separate incident, ten people died while several others sustained serious injuries after a bus they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision in Salama Township, Mukaa Sub-county, 12 days ago.

The bus was heading to Athi River in Machakos County when it collided with an oncoming truck.

Three women and four men died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to Sultan Hamud Sub-county Hospital.
