President William Ruto and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to strengthen cooperation in technology, agriculture, investment and education following bilateral talks held on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Évian, France.

The discussions underscored growing ties between Nairobi and Kyiv as both countries seek to expand economic cooperation while addressing regional and global challenges.

In a statement following the meeting, President Zelensky said Ukraine was ready to share its expertise and work with Kenya on joint development projects.

"During the meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto, we discussed the development of high-tech cooperation in various sectors: attracting investments, agriculture and education. We are ready to share our experience with Kenya and implement joint projects," Zelensky said.

He said both leaders had agreed that their teams would work out the details of possible cooperation and thanked Kenya for supporting Ukraine-backed resolutions at the United Nations General Assembly.

President Ruto, meanwhile, emphasised Kenya's commitment to diplomacy and international law in efforts to resolve the Russia–Ukraine conflict.

"Kenya supports efforts to advance a peaceful resolution to the Russia–Ukraine conflict through dialogue, diplomacy and respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter," Ruto said.

"We believe lasting peace is best secured through cooperation, adherence to international law and a stronger, more representative global system."

Beyond discussions on peace and international cooperation, the two leaders reviewed progress in Kenya–Ukraine relations and explored opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, agriculture and food security.

Ruto revealed that the talks also produced a significant agreement aimed at boosting food supplies across the region.

"We also agreed to fast-track plans for the establishment of a grain hub at the Port of Mombasa to strengthen regional food security and help address supply shortages across East Africa," he said.

The proposed grain hub could position Mombasa as a key distribution centre for Ukrainian grain entering East Africa, helping improve food availability in a region that has faced recurring supply disruptions and climate-related challenges.

The meeting took place during the G7 Summit, where world leaders and partner nations gathered to discuss global economic, security and development priorities.
