Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has said the newly completed Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Gucha Campus will significantly expand healthcare access and strengthen medical training capacity in the larger Gusii Region.

The campus, located in Bomachoge Chache constituency, Kisii county, has been developed through NG-CDF funding as part of broader efforts to enhance healthcare education and human capital development.

Omollo said the institution reflects a deliberate government strategy to address gaps in medical training while improving the availability of skilled health professionals at the community level.

The project traces its origins back to 2018 when the foundation stone was laid by then Deputy President, now President William Ruto, signaling a long-term commitment to expanding technical and medical education infrastructure across the country.

That vision was later realised in April 2026 when the Head of State officially commissioned the facility during a development tour of the region.

The fully completed campus is set to admit its first cohort of students in September 2026, with initial academic programmes focusing on Diploma and Certificate courses in Nursing and other essential healthcare disciplines.

The institution is part of the wider network of Kenya Medical Training College, which plays a central role in training healthcare professionals across the country.

Modern learning facilities at the campus include lecture rooms, administrative blocks, and specialised medical skills laboratories designed to support hands-on clinical training.

Students will also benefit from structured clinical placements through partnerships with nearby subcounty hospitals and the broader KMTC Kisii Main Campus network, ensuring practical exposure alongside academic instruction.

Beyond education, the campus is expected to stimulate local economic activity in Bomachoge Chache through job creation, increased student-driven commerce, and improved healthcare service delivery across the region. Authorities also note that enhanced training capacity will contribute to long-term improvements in health outcomes by increasing the number of qualified medical professionals.
