Police are investigating two separate incidents
of electrocution that left two people dead in Nairobi and Kiminini in Bungoma
County.
The first incident happened after a man died after a suspected electrocution incident at his home in Runda, Nairobi over the weekend.
According to the police, the victim, identified as George Kivasa, was leaving his house when he came into contact with a clothesline that was hanging loosely across the doorway in Gothogoro slums.
Police said Kivasa collapsed immediately after touching the line, prompting his wife to rush to his aid while calling for help from neighbours.
Residents responded and assisted in taking him to a nearby clinic for emergency medical attention. Due to the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to Kiambu Level 4 Hospital for specialised treatment.
However, Kivasa was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Police have launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the clothesline may have become electrified.
The body was preserved pending further investigations and post-mortem examination.
Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise caution around electrical installations and report any suspected electrical hazards to prevent similar tragedies.
Elsewhere, a 57-year-old man died after being electrocuted while pruning trees in Kiminini Sub-County, Bungoma County.
The victim, identified as Francis Muruli, was electrocuted and died on the spot while carrying out tree-pruning duties.
Police officers and Kenya Power and Lighting officials visited the scene and established that the deceased was trimming trees along a perimeter fence when a branch he had cut fell onto overhead power lines. The resulting contact caused a fatal electric shock.
Police processed and documented the scene before the body was removed to Kiminini Cottage Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as authorities continue to urge members of the public to exercise caution when working near electricity infrastructure.
Elsewhere, a 48-year-old man died after reportedly slipping on rocks and falling into a pond along a water stream in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Homa Bay County.
Police said a man had slipped in a rocky section of a stream and fallen into a pond at Liera Village, dying at the scene. Police officers visited the scene and found the body of Michael Juma, 48, lying in the pond of running water.
A preliminary examination of the body revealed injuries on the forehead, believed to have been sustained during the fall.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Gendia Adventist Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations into the
circumstances surrounding the incident, which has been recorded as a sudden
death.
A team of detectives revisited the scene as part
of the probe into the death. They wanted to know if he was thrown therein or
fell accidentally.
