Police in Kathiani, Machakos county, are investigating possible murder incidents after three bodies were discovered in the area on Sunday.
Kathiani Subcounty police commander George Kashmir said the bodies were separately discovered by the public at Wandathe village within Kathiani Subcounty on Sunday evening. They reported the same to Kathiani police station.
Residents suspect that the bodies could be a result of mass killings by unknown assailants.
"It was reported to the station by a resident that a child's leg had been discovered in the village. The repotee said the minor could be between 6 and 8 years old. The man told the officers that his dogs had found and were eating the said leg at his home," Kashmir told reporters on Monday.
Kashmir said police responded to the scene, processed and removed the body part to a morgue.
The officers, together with villagers, later mounted a search for other parts of the body in vain.
Kashmir said they were later alerted to two more bodies that had been discovered by another man within the same village.
The reportee claimed to have stumbled on the bodies while he was herding his livestock in a forest.
A team of police officers were dispatched to the said location. They established that both bodies were intact, indicating that the leg that had earlier been recovered was from a different person.
This raised fears that there could be more bodies in the area.
Kashmir said that due to the bad condition of the area where the bodies were found, the exercise to remove the two bodies was postponed until today
The officers, together with members of the public, are expected to visit the area to remove the bodies and find out whether there are more bodies.
The incidents come a few days after seven other bodies were found in Mwingi area, neighbouring Kitui County, having been buried in a mass grave.
