The government has set aside Sh9.4 billion meant to resettle the landless in the country.
Treasury CS John Mbadi on Thursday announced that out of the total amount Sh5 million will go towards resettling the landless people at the Coast.
Sh892 million was set aside for the processing and registration of title deeds, while Sh388 million will go towards the digitisation of land registries to secure tenure, reduce disputes and unlock productive land use.
Mbadi also earmarked Sh143.7 billion for the Housing, Urban Development and Public Works sub-sectors.
“This package includes Sh18.6 billion under the Kenya Urban Programme (KenUP), Sh50.6 billion for construction of affordable housing units, Sh20.9 billion for social housing units, Sh20.2 billion for institutional housing and Sh18.2 billion for critical social and physical infrastructure,” he said.
Sh2.7 billion was set aside for the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project Phase II, and Sh535 million was targeted to support construction of county headquarters.
The CS said the investments will improve living conditions, provision of services and local governance capacity.
Mbadi also set aside Sh2.4 billion for the regulation and development of the construction industry, thus reinforcing safety, quality and accountability across the sector.
During the previous 2025-26 budget, the National Treasury had set aside Sh3.8 billion for the settlement of the landless.
Sh1.1 billion was earmarked for processing and registration of title deeds, Sh712 million for digitisation of land registries, Sh200 million for georeferencing of land parcels, and Sh220 million for construction of land registries to safeguard the legitimacy of land ownership.
During that financial year, Sh7.2 billion was set aside for the Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Project Phase II; Sh3.5 billion for the construction of housing units for the National Police and Kenya Prison; and Sh500 million for building climate resilience of the urban poor programme.
Sh184 million for construction of footbridges and Sh 454 million targeted to support construction of county headquarters.
Some Sh2.6 billion was also set aside for the regulation and development of the construction industry.
