AI generated imageDetectives in Nyando subcounty, Kisumu county, are investigating the death of a 12-year-old boy who is suspected to have drowned in a man-made water pan in Awasi.
The incident was reported on Sunday, June 7.
Police who responded to scene said a Grade 8 pupil at Awasi Comprehensive Primary School, had gone missing at around 3:00 pm on June 6.
Concerned relatives and residents launched a search for the boy and later discovered his sandals floating on the surface of a nearby water pan, raising fears that he had drowned.
A local diver was called to assist and entered the water pan, where he successfully retrieved the body.
Police processed the scene and noted that the body had no visible physical injuries. The remains were subsequently moved to Othoo Private mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
And the body of a 68-year-old man who had been reported missing was recovered from the waters of Mugutha River in Gikari village, Mutate location, within Nembu sublocation, Gatundu South subcounty, Kiambu county.
The deceased, identified as Simon Kiroma, had been reported missing on May 29 after allegedly leaving his home on May 25 and failing to return.
The discovery was reported by his relatives, after the body was spotted floating in the river.
Police officers visited the scene and found the body floating in the river. The remains were in a decomposed state.
After the scene was documented and processed by investigators, the body was retrieved and transferred to Kigumo Level 4 Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Elsewhere, police in Dandora have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 47-year-old man who succumbed to a head injury while undergoing treatment at hospital.
According to police, the incident was reported on June 5, after the victim’s son informed police that his father, Patrick Chitechi, had died while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Investigations established that the deceased sustained a serious head injury on the night of June 3 at around 11:00 pm while in Dandora Phase 5 Estate as he was returning home from work.
The circumstances under which he sustained the injury remain unclear, but police suspect that an unknown person may have assaulted him.
On June 4, Chitechi sought treatment
at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where medical examinations reportedly revealed
internal bleeding. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to
Kenyatta National Hospital for specialized treatment.
However, he succumbed to his injuries on June 5 at about 2:00 am while admitted at the facility.
Police have classified the case as murder and have commenced investigations to establish how the fatal injury was inflicted and identify those responsible.
The body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and further investigations.
