A section of students at Multimedia University of Kenya staged protests demanding that the administration address examination-related grievances, leading to unrest around the campus.
Anti-riot police were deployed to contain the demonstrations and prevent disruption of traffic and other activities.
Reports indicate that the students engaged security officers in confrontations as authorities moved to disperse the crowds.
Police used teargas canisters to disperse the protesters. Traffic flow on busy Magadi Road was disrupted.
Police said they would not allow the group to disrupt businesses in the area.
There was no official and immediate comment from the administration.
The protest adds to a history of student demonstrations at the university over welfare and academic concerns, with previous protests having disrupted transport along Magadi Road and prompted police intervention.
