Lenny, popularly known as “The Famous Mood Nganya Driver,” has urged matatu drivers to avoid risky stunts following the Enterprise Road crash that killed four people.

The accident along Enterprise Road has sparked concern within Nairobi’s matatu industry after a crash that killed four people.

The Nganya[matatu] involved overturned after the driver allegedly lost control while performing a “snake” manoeuvre.

The incident has triggered renewed debate among drivers about safety and discipline on the road.

Following the tragedy, Lenny, popularly known as “The Famous Mood Nganya Driver,” has urged fellow drivers to abandon risky “manyoka” stunts, warning that such behaviour is putting lives at risk and damaging the industry’s reputation.

He said matatu culture had begun earning respect, but warned that it risks being undermined by reckless conduct.

“We are destroying what we have built for long. Let’s avoid them and just work,” he said, calling on drivers to focus on responsible driving.

Lenny also cautioned drivers against being influenced by younger peers who encourage dangerous stunts for attention and popularity.

He stressed the need for a shift in mindset within the industry, urging drivers to prioritise safety and professionalism.

“Let’s change,” he said.

The accident left 15 people injured.

The crash occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on June 3 near the Dar es Salaam Roundabout in the Industrial Area.

According to police, the matatu was heading from the DT Dobie direction towards General Motors when a motorcycle, whose rider has not been identified, emerged from Dakar Road and failed to give way.

Police said the driver swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, hit the central island kerb at the roundabout, lost control and the vehicle overturned onto its left side.

The motorcycle rider reportedly left the scene immediately after the incident.

The driver sustained a fracture on his left leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police officers visited the scene and launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.

Authorities are also seeking to trace the motorcycle rider believed to have been involved in events leading up to the accident.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has said it has launched investigations into the fatal accident.
