Police in Kakamega county have launched a manhunt for a woman accused of seriously injuring her husband and a 16-month-old child by pouring hot water on them.

This followed a domestic dispute, police said. The incident was reported to Malinya patrol base under Malaika police station on Tuesday, June 2.

Western police boss George Seda said the incident occurred on June 1 at his home when a woman visited the man and his wife with a child.

The husband told police he introduced the visitor to his wife as his newly married second wife and informed her that they had a 16-month-old child together.

He alleged that his wife welcomed the pair into the house before going to the kitchen, ostensibly to prepare tea.

However, after a few minutes, she allegedly returned carrying a sufuria filled with hot water and poured it on him while he was holding the child against his chest.

As a result, the man and the infant sustained severe burn injuries and were rushed to Kakamega General Hospital for treatment.

Police said the child remains admitted to the hospital in serious condition, while the father’s condition was not immediately disclosed.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident and her whereabouts remain unknown.

Police launched investigations and are pursuing the suspect as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault.

And a construction worker died after being electrocuted while working at a building site in Mpeketoni town, Lamu county, on Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased, identified as Moses Mwenje, was working as a labourer at a construction site within Mpeketoni town when he came into contact with a live power line.

Police said Mwenje was carrying a pole when it accidentally touched overhead electricity lines, resulting in a fatal electric shock.

He was rushed to Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have launched investigations into the incident as part of standard procedure, while authorities continue to emphasise the importance of observing safety measures when working near electricity infrastructure.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was beaten to death by villagers in Migori county after he allegedly threatened his wife and children with a panga during a domestic dispute.

The incident occurred in Dago Village, Kanyasrega Sublocation, Awendo subcounty and the deceased, Gliford Otieno, appeared intoxicated when he picked a quarrel with his wife shortly after midnight.

Investigators say Otieno armed himself with a panga and chased his wife and her three children from their home following a domestic disagreement.

The woman’s distress calls reportedly attracted the attention of neighbours, three other individuals, and the deceased’s brother, Peter Otieno.

Police said the group, armed with crude weapons, confronted Otieno and managed to overpower him. He was allegedly tied with a rope before being assaulted.

By the time authorities arrived, Otieno had succumbed to injuries sustained during the beating. His body was found lying within his compound with visible injuries across several parts of the body.

The body was moved to Rapcom Hospital mortuary in Awendo, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the role played by those who responded to the domestic disturbance. No arrests had been announced at the time of the report.
