Police officers arrested several protesters along Moi Avenue in Nairobi during demonstrations linked to rising fuel prices on Monday.

Scenes witnessed on the busy street showed some demonstrators being dragged across the road while others were led away by security officers during the operation.

In one incident, several officers were seen forcefully arresting a man on the roadside near a police vehicle.

The man appeared unable to resist as the officer carried him by pants as he led him towards a police car that was parked nearby.

The situation attracted attention from people nearby especially the media people on ground as security officers moved quickly to disperse the crowd.

Another protester was also seen being escorted away by officers and civilians along a corridor on Moi Avenue.

The individual appeared distressed during the arrest as people gathered around to witness the unfolding events.

The young man was seen trying to defend himself from the arrest but the police officers had overpowered him.

The demonstrations came amid growing public concern over high fuel prices.

The protests drew people into Nairobi’s central business district, where security officers are maintaining a heavy presence.

Images from the scene captured moments of struggle, fear and confusion during the demonstrations with some officers seen holding batons.

On the other hand in Kihunguro along Ruiru bypass, police clashed with protesters as demonstrations linked to the nationwide matatu strike turned chaotic.

Videos circulating online showed running battles between anti-riot police officers and groups of youth who had gathered along the busy road to protest against soaring fuel prices and the rising cost of living.

The youth reportedly lit tyres on the road and barricaded sections of the highway with stones, paralysing traffic and preventing motorists from accessing the route for several hours.

Police officers were forced to fire shots in the air to disperse the protesters as tensions escalated in the area.

Officers later moved in to clear the burning tyres and remove stones that had been placed on the road to block vehicles.

The confrontation came as the nationwide matatu strike entered its first day, causing widespread transport disruptions in several parts of the country.
