The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the East Africa Centre of Excellence in Urology and Nephrology (EACE-UN), has rolled out a fully-funded scholarship programme for the March 2026 intake.
The scholarships, supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Kenya, are designed to strengthen the country’s healthcare workforce in renal and urological care.
With chronic kidney disease and related conditions on the rise, the programme is expected to produce highly skilled specialists to serve hospitals and clinics nationwide.
KMTC confirmed that successful applicants will receive comprehensive support.
“Successful applicants will receive full funding, covering tuition fees and stipends throughout their study period,” the institution said in its announcement.
The scholarships are available across nine specialised programmes offered at KMTC campuses.
These include Higher Diplomas in Medical Engineering (Dialysis, Therapeutic, and Diagnostic Equipment), Clinical Medicine & Surgery (Nephrology), Nephrology Nursing, Nutrition & Dietetics (Renal Nutrition), and Medical Laboratory Sciences (Renal Technology).
A six-month short course in Renal Transplant Nursing is also part of the package.
The study duration for most Higher Diplomas is two years full-time, while the short course runs for six months.
Applications must be submitted online through the KMTC admissions portal at admissions.kmtc.ac.ke.
The process involves creating an account, filling in the application form, uploading required documents, and attaching a handwritten essay of not more than 200 words explaining why the applicant deserves the scholarship and how they plan to contribute to the community after graduation.
The selection process will include employer recommendation, shortlisting by KMTC, vetting by the KMTC-EACE scholarship committee, and final admission by KMTC. Successful candidates will then be bonded by their employers under Public Service Commission guidelines before enrollment.
Applications should reach the KMTC Chief Executive Officer, Kelly Oluoch, by March 15, 2026. KMTC has cautioned that the scholarships are subject to funding availability. “This announcement marks a significant step in advancing Kenya’s healthcare system, offering professionals a chance to upgrade their skills while contributing to the fight against kidney-related diseases,” the statement added.
