Police are investigating a gang that allegedly attacked two women and stole Sh632,000 shortly after they had withdrawn the money from a bank in Kipsitet area, Kericho County.
The women, officials of a local women’s group in Koitaburot, reported being left in shock following the incident.
They told police that on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, they visited a bank in Muhoroni Town to withdraw the funds for use by the women’s group.
According to their account, they boarded a salon car and, upon reaching the border of Koguta and Koitaburot areas, their vehicle was blocked by another four-wheel-drive car.
Three men, reportedly wearing yellow reflectors, allegedly ordered them out of the car while appearing to be armed.
The attackers are said to have handcuffed the driver, removed him from the vehicle, and seized the women’s bags containing the money before fleeing the scene around 3 pm.
Police were informed and visited the area as part of the ongoing investigation. As of Thursday, no arrests or recoveries had been made.
Authorities indicated that the attackers may have had prior knowledge of the women’s movements. Police also visited the bank and interviewed staff as part of their probe.
Incidents of armed robbery have reportedly been on the rise. On Tuesday, two suspects were killed in Nairobi after allegedly attacking and robbing a man of Sh300,000 shortly after he had withdrawn the money from a bank along Kimathi Street.
The suspects were reportedly pursued by police and shot along Moi Avenue. Police said they have deployed additional undercover personnel to curb such crimes.
In a separate incident, an unknown number of thieves reportedly broke into a store in Sarman, Tarbaj, Wajir County, stealing more than 300 mattresses, 1,000 blankets, ten cartons of sanitary pads, 20 cartons of bar soap, and two generators. The items had been brought by the local woman representative on December 7 for distribution to the community.
Police said the store, located within the local chief’s office, was forcibly entered. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are pursuing those responsible.
