Nairobians have begun to throng major bus terminals to travel upcountry.

Hundreds of passengers were seen queuing at the Machakos Country Bus, with long queues forming from as early as 5.30 am.

Hundreds of travellers crowded booking offices at Machakos Country Bus Station, hoping to secure early morning seats on buses heading to western Kenya and Nyanza ahead of the Christmas holidays.

Many passengers are forced to travel early to beat the growing demand for buses.

Bus operators have witnessed a sharp rise in bookings, with some increasing the number of trips to accommodate the surge.

Fares are expected to rise in the coming days as demand continues to spike.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has called for concerted efforts among Kenyans to reduce road carnage during this festive season.

The Authority's Deputy Director and Head of Motor Vehicle Inspection, Opere Nyaroya said they were determined to reduce road fatalities by at least 50 per cent during the December holidays.
