Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has issued a final appeal for Kenyans to fill Nyayo Stadium during tomorrow’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.
Mwaura said the national fete belongs to all citizens and should reflect the country’s unity and pride.
The highlight of the ceremony will be an address by President William Ruto, who is expected to outline the country’s achievements, ongoing development programmes and the progress made since independence.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mwaura said the day offers Kenyans a moment to reflect on unity, patriotism and the milestones that have shaped the nation.
He urged the public to turn up in large numbers, describing Jamhuri Day as “a celebration of who we are as a people and the journey we continue to build together.”
“We are calling on all Kenyans to come out in large numbers and fill Nyayo Stadium. Jamhuri Day is our moment to celebrate who we are, our unity and the progress we have made as a nation,” he said.
Alongside preparations for the national event, Mwaura released a summary of activities marking this year’s Jamhuri Day thematic week, held from December 8 to 11 under the theme “Tourism, Wildlife, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE).”
He said the thematic week focused on positioning Kenya as a global tourism and MICE destination by showcasing the country’s ability to host major international conferences, exhibitions and cultural events.
The programme highlighted Kenya’s growing competitiveness, supported by improved event bidding, promotion of flagship national events and continued investment in MICE infrastructure.
Mwaura noted that the tourism and MICE sectors play an increasingly important role in supporting aviation, hospitality, retail and the broader economy.
Kenya’s regional connectivity, expanding hotel capacity, digital infrastructure and facilities such as the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) were cited as key assets in attracting business tourism and foreign investment.
The thematic week also featured youth mentorship forums, cultural performances, fashion showcases, traditional dances, panel discussions and the lighting of the KICC tower.
A holiday booking desk was launched to boost domestic tourism during the festive season.
The week concluded with the release of the Wildlife Census Report and a national town hall meeting, underscoring the role of wildlife and cultural tourism in promoting Kenya’s identity, conservation agenda and global profile.
Ruto also visited various stands at KICC.
“Tourism is the front and centre of our Plan; few sectors carry such extraordinary power to create jobs, generate foreign exchange, stimulate enterprise and elevate Kenya’s global standing,” he said.
Mwaura added that the successes of the thematic week set a strong foundation for tomorrow’s celebrations and reflect the country’s growing confidence on the global stage.
