As the new academic year approaches, parents across the country will soon know where their children have been placed for senior school.
The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the first cohort of learners completing the competency-based education (CBE) primary cycle will begin senior school on January 12, 2026.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Eveleen Mitei reassured Kenyans that teachers are well-prepared to receive Grade 10 learners.
She emphasised that the ongoing retooling of teachers for senior school is aimed at ensuring they are fully equipped to support learners transitioning from primary to secondary education.
"Our teachers are ready and prepared to welcome the first class of senior school learners," she said, highlighting the pivotal role of educators in the successful implementation of the new curriculum.
She thanked all stakeholders—teachers, education officers, and parents—for their active participation in preparing learners for this historic transition.
She noted that their collaborative efforts have been instrumental in ensuring that the first cohort is adequately supported as they move into the next phase of their education.
This year also marks the release of the inaugural Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results, which evaluate learners’ competencies at the end of the CBE primary cycle.
For the first time, learners’ achievements have been assessed under the new competency-based framework, offering insights into their readiness for secondary education.
To facilitate smooth placement, secondary schools have been categorised into four groups—C1, C2, C3, and C4.
