Police are investigating the death of a student at the Kenya Medical Training College in Embu whose decomposed body was found in his room at the hostel.

The decomposed body of George Wangwe, 23, who was a second-year medical engineering student, was found at the hostel long after he went missing.

He had not been seen since Friday, November 28, until Sunday, November 30, 2025, when the body was found, police and residents said.

Neighbours complained there was a bad smell from the room, prompting them to check.

They found that the door had been closed from the inside.

Police were called and broke into the room, where they found the body lying on the bed with blood oozing from the mouth and nose.

The body had blisters on the hands and stomach, while his neck and face were swollen, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and investigations, police said.

Detectives also said they are investigating a murder in an incident where one Timothy Sidemi was found dead on the roadside in Serem, Vihiga County.

Police said the deceased was epileptic. His body had a deep cut on the head, and there were bruises on his right hand.

About ten green maize cobs lay next to his body when it was discovered on Monday morning, police said.

The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said, as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere, police are investigating a drowning incident in Miwani, Kisumu County.

Police said a body was found in the River Nyando after a suspected drowning.

The female body had no visible injuries when it was found on Monday afternoon, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy. And police rescued a murder suspect from an angry mob in Kaptama, Mt Elgon, Bungoma County.

The suspect was being stoned by a mob on Sunday on claims he had killed one Magret Chemutai.

He was rescued and rushed to a local hospital, where he was treated and discharged pending arraignment for murder, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Dadajibula, Wajir County, recovered an AK-47 rifle with four bullets from a Somali man whose intentions were not established.

The man had aimed his weapon at police who were on patrol when they also challenged him at gunpoint. He surrendered and was arrested for further grilling.

His motives in the area were not known. The area is near the Kenya–Somalia border and is usually breached by gunmen. Police have heightened operations in the area to contain the attacks staged by gangs.
